LA VICENDA DEL SANTO ANELLO: DALL'ARRIVO ROCAMBOLESCO AL DONO SACRO ALLA CITTÀ
In 1473, one of the most significant objects of Christianity mysteriously arrived in Perugia: the ring of the Virgin Mary. The arrival of this artifact generates great uproar in the city and, since then, it is shown together with the precious reliquary only twice a year, during the so-called "calata".
On July 28 and 29, guided evening tours are held at the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, which is open extraordinarily on the occasion of this unique event. These tours aim to trace the history of the Holy Ring poised between reality and legend, from its arrival in Perugia to the artistic and devotional ferment that its presence has generated in the city. This object, charged with history and fascination, still speaks to all those who, out of faith or curiosity, encounter this "memorial" of Mary and Joseph. The guided tour runs between the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the Chapter Museum and lasts about 45 minutes.
